Career Health

What is Career Health?

Career Health examines how work and career interact with psychological wellbeing, physical health, identity, relationships, meaning, and the life a person is building beyond work.

Careers shape how we spend our time, how we see ourselves, how we relate to others, and often how we experience our own worth, health, and wellbeing. Yet the relationship between career and health is usually discussed through separate lenses — burnout, job satisfaction, productivity, career development, work-life balance.

Each of those lenses captures part of the picture. None of them, on their own, answers a simpler and larger question: what does it mean to have a healthy career?

Career Health is an attempt to hold those threads together. It treats the relationship with work as something that can be healthier or less healthy, understood, supported, and studied — rather than something to be optimized or endured.

Why integration is needed

The pieces exist. The connective tissue does not.

Psychology, occupational health, organizational research, medicine, and career development each hold part of this knowledge. What has been missing is a shared framework that connects them — and a common language professionals across those disciplines can use when a person's career is affecting far more than their work.

Psychological wellbeing

How work shapes mood, anxiety, self-worth, and the internal experience of a working life.

Physical health

Sleep, rest, energy, and the physiological load carried by sustained career pressure.

Identity

How closely a person's sense of self is bound to role, title, output, and achievement.

Relationships

The way work shapes availability, closeness, and presence with the people who matter.

Meaning

Whether work still connects to something a person genuinely values.

Life beyond work

The room left for interests, creativity, community, and the life a person is building.
